Waldron Village History Weekend

An historic exhibition of old photographs, a walk round Waldron’s listed buildings, two fascinating talks, and a visit to the grounds of Possingworth Manor. All events set in one of the jewels of East Sussex village life

Friday 20th September

“The Wealden Iron Industry and Waldron” Illustrated talk by Jeremy Hodg-kinson, historian and archaeologist. Lucas Hall, Waldron, 6.30 pm. Tickets £5 per head include a glass of wine and preview of exhibition*.
 

Saturday 21st September

Exhibition Black and white photographs of Waldron’s history from the collec-tion of Barry Russell with additional material. Lucas Hall 10.00 am – 4.30 pm. Tickets £2 per head include one printed guide to Waldron village centre per adult couple.*

“Possingworth Manor, the serious and scandalous” A tour of the grounds by permission of Lady Neville. Two tours at 2.00 pm and 3.30 pm starting prompt-ly, with local researcher Tim Williams. Parking in field below the house, signed from Possingworth Lane. Tickets £3 per head*

“Waldron and the First World War” Illustrated talk by military historian and battlefield guide Steve Roberts, on the devastating effect of the conflict on Wal-dron. With the 100th anniversary next year, this is talk is timely. All Saints’ Church Waldron, 6.30 pm. Tickets £5 per head include a glass of wine. *

22nd September

Exhibition continues. Black and white photographs of Waldron’s history. Lu-cas Hall 10.00 am – 4.00 pm. Details as above.

Sussex Harmony Music in rural churches was once a community affair with villagers joining and playing their own instruments. Sussex Harmony will per-form in costume their programme “A Sussex Year” from Wassail to Carols with some readings from the period pre-1850. All Saints’ Church 6.00 pm. No entry charge but there will be a retiring collection in aid of repairs and maintenance of Waldron Parish’s two churches.
